In Fridays lecture given by professor Kjar, the main topic was evolution and the process of evolving over time. My prior knowledge of evolution was that of basic expectation of the survival of the fittest. So what I knew was species evolve to adapt to their surroundings. Professor Kjar added to my knowledge that evolution also had to do with the parents of the offspring. He explained that over the years genetics has changed drastically because of the constant mating with other species but in the same genera. The examples of species he used was ants. The part that was most interesting to me was when Professor Kjar showed us the amount of different species of ants that ended up crossing their genes. In all science and nature are meant to coexist because without nature there would be no science and without science there would not be a understanding as to how our world works.

BLADE RUNNER!!
1. Blade Runner is best known for its cyberpunk mise en scene (design aspects of the film): the incredibly dense texture of its shots. Watch very carefully and describe the 2020 culture the movie suggests visually.
The scenery of the movie Blade Runner is dark and ominous, and it is raining through out the entirety of the movie. the opening scene of the movie is an over head view of Los Angles in the year 2020. As the camera flies over the city there are massive fire balls exploding out of what appears to be factories. These fire balls are clearly releasing toxins into the air there for causing a great deal of smog that polutes the air. Hence why it is constantly raining and always dark. In this sense the director wanted to portray 2020 to be a dark, poluted, and toxin infested time period.
2. A moral message of the movie is that it was wrong to enslave the replicants and use them as forced labor since they were so human-like in both appearance and thought process. What would need to be different about replicants in order for us to feel that it was OK to use them for labor?
What would need to happen is the replacants would have to be made to look more machanical, or more robot like. Once the creators built them to look and act like humans the creators took the role of God. It does not matter what religion you belong to, there is and only ever will be one God.
3. Pulling in our current topics of Order and Chaos “The Self Among Others” what kind of economy does the 2020 world live in? Give examples of imagery or quotes to support your opinion.
The economy of 2020 appeared to be broken into two parts, either very rich or very poor. This reference is suggested when the camera focuses on these massive building that look complex and expensive to live in. However when the camera is on ground level the city is congested, dirty, and not well maintained. There for explaining to the audience in 2020 the economy of the United States is not going to have a middle man. Only Upper and Lower classes.

The Balance
1) How do we balance social justice with moral authority, or just with unjust laws?
As a human race its expected of us to encounter obstacles such as balancing social justice with moral authority. Depending on each person were all going to have different tasks to go about these obstacles. Social justice is the idea of a perfect society and equal justice amongst social classes. Morally we achieve our goal of a perfect society by using good judgement and action. Even though we may not completely agree with unjust laws we still abide by them to keep the system moving.
2) What constitutes social responsibility and justice, and what is the relationship between freedom and power?
Social responsibility is our duty to be respectful and polite people. In a world where there is so much violence and hatred it is easy to get caught up in the wrong ways of life. Justice is a tricky word because there are several forms of justice, and not every form is pleasant.
What constitutes social responsibility is the though of having a society run smoothly. Justice in the form of righteous law contributes to protecting the society.
Freedom and power are related because freedom gives you the opportunity to become powerful and once you reach your almighty power your freedoms to do even more get opened up.
3) What constitutes leadership and how do leaders confront moral choices?
A good leader is someone who is not afraid to defend and attack. What constitutes good leadership is a leader who is aware of their surroundings and understands all laws and regulations. leaders confront moral choices when a moral decision needs to be made. If the leader is a good one making a good moral choice should be easy.
