The Final Count Down!!

Order and Chaos is an extremely simple concept, within this blog I will explain how so. Religion is a spiritual go to in which it is a means of solving the unknown. It is an organized assembly of people that use great order which instills chaos. For example the Catholic Religion is run by one specific figure head known as the Pope. Below him is twelve high cardinals who make up the religious clergy of higher power. This clergy has been an organized establishment for thousands of years. In a way this system is so organized a pecking order is created and the system works in a food chain like fashion.

With all major organizations a higher Archy is established and one main figure is employed. Similar to organization, cultural interaction can cause a great deal of confusion. In this sense, if two different cultures interact with one another, traditions and rituals are most likely not going to make ends meed. In ZZ Packers "Brownies" a cultural collision of blacks and whites emerge when one of the black girls hears one of the white girls call her a "nigger". Clearly this term has and always will be a raciest connotation towards African American people, but in this book the term "Caucasian" is used in the same racial negativity towards white people. "If you ate too fast you ate like a Caucasian, if you ate too slow you ate like a Caucasian." For me this short story truly hit home because never before have I seen the term "Caucasian" be used in a racist way. In turn because this word was used in a raciest orderly fashion it created a great deal of chaos in my life while reading it.

The final point I am going to touch upon is the action of anarchy during war. Anarchy takes a great deal of organizing, especially when it is done during war. When one person designs a system to revolt against an entire group of people, major chaos is going to erupt. In conclusion my views of order and chaos has changed because I now see life with different eyes. Wherever I now see order it is hard for me not to chuckle because I know that with that order chaos is not far behind.

Evolution!! The Lecture

In Fridays lecture given by professor Kjar, the main topic was evolution and the process of evolving over time. My prior knowledge of evolution was that of basic expectation of the survival of the fittest. So what I knew was species evolve to adapt to their surroundings. Professor Kjar added to my knowledge that evolution also had to do with the parents of the offspring. He explained that over the years genetics has changed drastically because of the constant mating with other species but in the same genera. The examples of species he used was ants. The part that was most interesting to me was when Professor Kjar showed us the amount of different species of ants that ended up crossing their genes. In all science and nature are meant to coexist because without nature there would be no science and without science there would not be a understanding as to how our world works.

BLADE RUNNER!!

1. Blade Runner is best known for its cyberpunk mise en scene (design aspects of the film): the incredibly dense texture of its shots. Watch very carefully and describe the 2020 culture the movie suggests visually.

The scenery of the movie Blade Runner is dark and ominous, and it is raining through out the entirety of the movie. the opening scene of the movie is an over head view of Los Angles in the year 2020. As the camera flies over the city there are massive fire balls exploding out of what appears to be factories. These fire balls are clearly releasing toxins into the air there for causing a great deal of smog that polutes the air. Hence why it is constantly raining and always dark. In this sense the director wanted to portray 2020 to be a dark, poluted, and toxin infested time period.

2. A moral message of the movie is that it was wrong to enslave the replicants and use them as forced labor since they were so human-like in both appearance and thought process. What would need to be different about replicants in order for us to feel that it was OK to use them for labor?

What would need to happen is the replacants would have to be made to look more machanical, or more robot like. Once the creators built them to look and act like humans the creators took the role of God. It does not matter what religion you belong to, there is and only ever will be one God.

3. Pulling in our current topics of Order and Chaos “The Self Among Others” what kind of economy does the 2020 world live in? Give examples of imagery or quotes to support your opinion.

The economy of 2020 appeared to be broken into two parts, either very rich or very poor. This reference is suggested when the camera focuses on these massive building that look complex and expensive to live in. However when the camera is on ground level the city is congested, dirty, and not well maintained. There for explaining to the audience in 2020 the economy of the United States is not going to have a middle man. Only Upper and Lower classes.

The Balance

1) How do we balance social justice with moral authority, or just with unjust laws?

As a human race its expected of us to encounter obstacles such as balancing social justice with moral authority. Depending on each person were all going to have different tasks to go about these obstacles. Social justice is the idea of a perfect society and equal justice amongst social classes. Morally we achieve our goal of a perfect society by using good judgement and action. Even though we may not completely agree with unjust laws we still abide by them to keep the system moving.

2) What constitutes social responsibility and justice, and what is the relationship between freedom and power?

Social responsibility is our duty to be respectful and polite people. In a world where there is so much violence and hatred it is easy to get caught up in the wrong ways of life. Justice is a tricky word because there are several forms of justice, and not every form is pleasant.
What constitutes social responsibility is the though of having a society run smoothly. Justice in the form of righteous law contributes to protecting the society.
Freedom and power are related because freedom gives you the opportunity to become powerful and once you reach your almighty power your freedoms to do even more get opened up.

3) What constitutes leadership and how do leaders confront moral choices?

A good leader is someone who is not afraid to defend and attack. What constitutes good leadership is a leader who is aware of their surroundings and understands all laws and regulations. leaders confront moral choices when a moral decision needs to be made. If the leader is a good one making a good moral choice should be easy.

Film Critique: Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

Who am I?

I ask myself this question whenever I am in a time of stress and or discomfort. My answers usually consists of I am a person who dreams of achieving incredible feats, with a family who is loving and supportive. I have friends who care for me as I care for them. I am health, and what ever stresses I have, can be summed up with the amount of school work the given week brings.

Is there a self that I can control?

The self that I can control is knowing how and when to put up personal filters. What I mean by personal filters is, knowing what to say in specific situations or knowing how to behave when I am in select company. Not acting on emotion is another way of using a personal filter. In the movie "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" Both Joel and Clementine reacted to an emotion and erased their memories of each other. In my opinion this was silly because even though the memories may be painful to think about after a break up, but those memories help build our personal filters and protect us from a similar situation.

What Forces Shape our sense of Self?

The forces of the past help shape who we are in the present.

The Self as I see it

A man walks down the street,
He says, Why am I soft in the middle now?
Why am I soft in the middle?
The rest of my life is so hard!
I need a photo-opportunity,
I want a shot at redemption!
Don't want to end up a cartoon,
In a cartoon graveyard .....

Bonedigger, Bonedigger,
Dogs in the moonlight.
Far away, my well-lit door.
Mr. Beerbelly, Beerbelly,
Get these mutts away from me!
You know, I don't find this stuff amusing anymore ....

If you'll be my bodyguard,
I can be your long lost pal!
I can call you Betty,
And Betty, when you call me,
You can call me Al!

A man walks down the street,
He says, Why am I short of attention?
Got a short little span of attention,
And whoa, my nights are so long!
Where's my wife and family?
What if I die here?
Who'll be my role-model?
Now that my role-model is ....
Gone ...... gone,
He ducked back down the alley,
With some roly-poly, little bat-faced girl.
All along .... along ....
There were incidents and accidents,
There were hints and allegations .....

If you'll be my bodyguard,
I can be your long lost pal!
I can call you Betty,
And Betty, when you call me,
You can call me Al!
Call me Al ......

A man walks down the street,
It's a street in a strange world.
Maybe it's the Third World.
Maybe it's his first time around.
He doesn't speak the language,
He holds no currency.
He is a foreign man,
He is surrounded by the sound, sound ....
Cattle in the marketplace.
Scatterlings and orphanages.
He looks around, around .....
He sees angels in the architecture,
Spinning in infinity,
He says, Amen! and Hallelujah!

If you'll be my bodyguard,
I can be your long lost pal!
I can call you Betty,
And Betty, when you call me,
You can call me Al!
You can call me Al ......

This is a song written by Paul Simon and the reason I chose this song is because it is about a very basic concept of the interest in some other persons self. The man in the story's name is Al and he is trying to connect with the girl that he loves. Everyday us as humans have interest in the opposite sex and that interest has a lot to do with who we are. People were designed to be attracted to one another and it only human nature to get excited when something we like is within our reach.

How One Speeks Defines Who They Are

Unfortunately for me I only speak one language, and I often find myself struggling with this one. The English language is the only language I speak and my dialect is Tri-State lingo. Now mind you I have no idea if this is a proper adjective for the dialect in which I speak, but I come for what is know as the Tri-State area of America.

The other day I herd my one friend talking to a girl and their conversation was more or less just back and forth flirting.By the end of the conversation, after enough courage was stirred up my friend ask if he could see the girl again.

Instrumentality's
The style of speech was nervous laughter in the beginning of the conversation but as it progressed it gradually moved towards laid back comfortable flirting.

Norms
The normality of the conversation was my friend was supposed to be nervous at first glance of their discussion.

Genre
And finally the style of the encounter would definitely fall under the genera hookups. I say hookups because the two were able to connect with some type of chemistry and eventually the two will hook up.

Understanding The Brain: Professor Lovett

450 x 300 - 17k - jpg - www.healthjockey.com/.../beer-bottels-brai
Dr. Lovett spoke of a number of different parts of the brain that I was unfamiliar with in the past. The entire lecture was interesting but one point that was brought up was particularly interesting. Dr. Lovett talked about a syndrome know as Korsakoff syndrome which is sever short term memory loss caused by excessive alcohol consumption. The reason i found this so interesting was because as a college student I understand the effects alcoholism can cause. I never know that it could actually cause a syndrome.

Whats Up Myself?

Benjamin Franklin stood by a strict routine of organized maintenance of every day life. He would keep a long of what specific activities he had to do that particular day. Franklin made notes of a person living in an organized life style can quickly become chaotic. Someone with good order is only bound to have even greater chaotic periods. I say this because as organized I am myself, whenever this organization gets disrupted my life become very chaotic.

Night

How does Wiesel Present himself at the beginning of the book and at the end?

When the book begins the reader immediately gets wave of strong religious belief coming from Wiesel. Saying things like no matter what struggles lie in my feature i wall never give up my faith in God. I may lose all trust in humanity but my faith will remain to true. Then towards the end of the book, when Wiesel's struggles are filled with death and destruction his faith in God diminishes. Similar to Job, Wiesel went through terrible hardships and lost everything he owned during the Holocaust. Different from Job, He didn't get any of it back.

Reflection on Lecture Given by Professor Denis

It was quite shocking that even after 67 times of giving that same lecture Professor Denis still got emotional during certain parts of his presentation. To me all this means that the Holocaust is still a very real and scary part of history that some still have a hard time comprehending its magnitude. I have been to Germany before and I was able to visit a Jewish holding cell. When I was there the tour guide stressed deeply that the Holocaust is not something to joke about and just like in Professor Denises lecture this realization was embedded into my memory once again. However something new that I learned during the presentation was the amount of art work that the Jewish prisoners were producing to keep their sanity during the horrific confinement. Art was the safe haven these people went to when their spirits were completely broken.

Reflecting on Fridays Lecture

In the lecture on Friday Professor Kather put into perspective how relevant the illustrations in "The Book of Job" were. Each plate of the story had an illustration to correspond with what happened in that section of the book. The reading it's self was not exactly the most entertaining of pieces but the illustrations played a major role in explaining what was about to occur.

Second Half of Job

Is Such A Conception of God Still Relevant in the Modern World?

Absolutely! People often want to find blame in God whenever a tragedy occurs. Not saying that I'm any different but psychology it is easier to say why did this have to happen to me. What could I possibly done so wrong to deserve such wrong doing. Job did exactly this, immediately blaming God for his punishment when in reality God was looking out for Jobs best interest. As hard as it may seem at times the power of prayer might just be the best solution.
